The Press Democrat recently featured an article in regarding the former McCrea property near the top of Sonoma Mountain.  Litigation has been ongoing for several years between the County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District and the new owners of the former McCrea property.  The proposed settlement appears to be a win-win for the District as well as for the new owner.  Our County Board of Supervisors will be meeting on Tuesday September 15 at 2:45PM to hear from interested parties and to make a final decision on this issue. This meeting will take place at 575 Administration Dr, Room 102A in Santa Rosa. We urge any of you who are interested to attend this important meeting and speak up on behalf of this resolution.

Dave Chalk (of Valley of the Moon Natural History Association’s Bill & Dave Hikes fame and longtime Council supporter) notes that “Many of us worked long and hard on the Sonoma Ridge Trail and were gratified to see this trail opened 7 years ago.  However due to the sale of the former McCrea property we lost the ability to extend the SRT up to the ridge line.  This proposed settlement will allow us to again route the SRT up high where the views are stunning. I look forward to swinging a McLeod again as we continue this link of the Bay Area Ridge Trail.”

Please see the letter from Pat & Ted Eliot giving the details and benefits to trail users.
