The next Sonoma County Trails Council trail work day to help repair the trails at Annadel State Park is Saturday, November 19, from 9am to about 1pm.

Meet us at 9am at the bottom of North Burma Trail at Channel Drive. Look for the white SCTC tool trailer. We will have parking passes for those that drive and there should be adequate parking in that general area.  Wear boots or sturdy shoes, bring water that you can take with you while working, and gloves.

In order to make sure we have enough tools and snacks please let us know if you plan to attend.

We look forward to seeing you all and having fun taking care of our wonderful park.

You can register at  LandPaths, REI and the Sonoma County Trails Council will work together on a new trail at Willow Creek Park (part of the Sonoma Coast State Park) on Saturday, September 24, 8:30am – 3pm, to celebrate National Public Lands Day: People Power at Willow Creek!

The 2011 North Burma project is done.

With the help of dozens of volunteers over the last 6 months, an eroding and messy mud patch has been eliminated as a part of your trail experience on Annadel’s North Burma Trail. At a spot about a thousand feet up the trail from Channel Drive, just before crossing a tributary to Santa Rosa Creek, the Sonoma County Trails Council worked with volunteers on eight dates and installed 150 feet of raised rock path, called a causeway. The project used 15 cubic yards of gravel and 560 hours of volunteer time.

Special thanks to these other local supporters; REI sponsored a work day and provided lunch for workers, as did CamelBak and Saris. We also want to acknowledge Clif products and Lagunitas which provided refreshing nourishment.

SCTC will continue to lead monthly 3rd Saturday work parties to tackle other projects in Annadel.

Sonoma County Trails Council receives $10k from the Annadel Half Marathon! Many thanks to the race organizers and participants for supporting Annadel State Park and the Trails Council.

In an effort to take direct action to address the significant financial challenges facing Annadel State Park, Fleet Feet Sports Santa Rosa and Empire Runners held the 2nd annual Annadel Half Marathon on April 17, 2011. The Annadel Half Marathon was a fund-raiser inspired by the need to do something for the park loved by hikers, runners, mountain bikers and equestrians. The need is even more critical with the recent announcement that Annadel is on the list of 70 state parks scheduled to be closed. The Annadel Half organizers selected the Sonoma County Trails Council to receive a portion of the funds from this event to maintain the trails in Annadel. The $10,000 grant means that the Trails Council can organize and lead regular trail work days at Annadel, with a trail work event every third Saturday, starting with completion of our current project on North Burma Trail and continuing in the fall with improvements on Ridge Trail.

People Power in Action!

Heavy rain (and/or snow) may affect our plans.  Call 707.524.9318 after 7:30am to check.  If no special message, we are a go!

Lend your “People Power” to help improve trail connections and steward the natural resources at the beautiful Willow Creek addition to Sonoma Coast State Park near Duncans Mills.  As part of an ongoing stewardship effort, LandPaths will hold workdays at least monthly through early summer.

Other dates include:

5. Sun May 8

7. Sat June 4 (National Trails Day with REI)

Tasks for the day include trail clearing and brushing (some downed trees), installing & maintaining trail signage, and other maintenance tasks as needed.  No experience necessary, but do see list of suggested tools below (if you have them).

If ground conditions allow, we will drive tools in.  Otherwise, we will depend on hiking and/or horses to pack in equipment (up to 2 miles each way). We’ll break for lunch and then continue work until about 2-3pm.  Read on for more details – and thanks for your help taking care of this ‘people powered park’!

When & Where:

We will meet at 10am on Saturday, Feb. 26^th at the “Freezeout Flat” Park entrance off Freezeout Road, just outside and southeast of the town of Duncan’s Mills off Moscow Road.  Take 116 west to Duncans Mills, turn LEFT on Moscow Rd go through town and across the bridge, immediately as you exit the bridge look for Freezeout road on your Right hand side.  Turn RIGHT (south) on Freezeout Road (immediately after the bridge) and look for the 2^nd gate on your left; proceed through gate to parking.

We should be finished by about 2-3pm.

Carpooling Encouraged:

Carpool will leave Santa Rosa at 9am (Mall parking near corner of A and 6^th Streets) and then pass by Mirabel Rd park and ride at 9:15.  Please carpool if at all possible!

What to bring:

• 4×4 truck if you have one.
• Water and lunch,
• Work gloves, eye/ear protection and sturdy shoes/boots.
• We will provide some of our tools, but if you have any of the following, please bring them along (chainsaw, shovel, post hole digger, digging bar, battery operated screw driver, McLeod, Pulaski, shovel, hand saw, loppers, etc.).

Details, Details:

• You will be asked to sign a liability waiver.
• No restroom or water at property.
