The Sonoma County Trails Council and Sonoma County Regional Parks Department need your help to complete some trail repairs in Shiloh Ranch Regional Park. We will work on two consecutive Saturdays (May 1 and May 8) to repair some sections of the Creekside Trail. This one of the best hiking trails in the park, but it needs some work.
On May 1 we will work on two sections that are too steep and narrow. We’ll widen the trail and reduce the grade so that the trail won’t be a slippery mess in the rainy season.

On May 8 we will fix a mudhole where the trail approaches a foot bridge.

Come join us on either day, or on both days. No experience is necessary. We’ll provide the tools and instruction. If you would like to help out please RSVP, and I will send you additional information. Feel free to call or email if you have any questions.

The Stewards’ Docent and Community Education Program will continue for 2010 and they are sponsoring the first of three State Parks Volunteer Orientations on January 9th at 9:00am at Armstrong Redwoods. The new year is a great time to learn how you can volunteer in our State Parks. Stewards manages a wide variety of education and stewardship volunteer opportunities in our parks — check the Stewards website for more information on this and other volunteer opportunities. Join the fun and make a difference!
All our good trail work means it’s time for a little TLC for our tools…and for ourselves. Join us for an afternoon of tool care, followed by poolside grilling and relaxing at Board VP Ken Well’s house from 1:30-5:30 on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 20. No experience necessary — just a willingness to learn the finer points of tool sharpening and tuning up. We’ll provide drinks, in part thanks to Lagunitas and a grill, so bring your suits and something to throw on the barbie. RSVP for directions and details
Tim Mayer led the way in moving several tons of materials to the site of our causeway project on Spring Creek Trail at Annadel State Park We’re now entering the design phase and expect to construct the causeway in October and early November, though the planned State Park closures may affect the schedule. Stay tuned for volunteer opportunities for this much needed project.
We had another successful weekend of trail work at Salt Point State Park for National Trails Day. A big thanks to parks employee Beth Robinson for coordinating the project with the Trails Council and her excellent leadership. Parks employee Karen Broderick for preparing all the excellent food. And of course, our volunteers and crew leaders who repaired steps, brushed and cleared 15 miles of trail, and repaired 30 hike and bike campsites!
